Laredo Main Street works to protect and enhance the quality of life for the community who live, work and visit Laredo's historically and culturally significant downtown commercial and historical area. Recently Laredo Main Street was recognized at a National Main Street City in Texas by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Laredo Main Street was also instrumental in helping the City of Laredo receive its designation as a Preserve America Community, an appointment given by the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation to communities that protect and celebrate their heritage, use their historic assets for economic development and community revitalization, and encourage people to experience and appreciate local historic resources through education and heritage tourism programs. The organization strives to facilitate the promotion of downtown businesses through events such as the El Centro de Laredo Farmers Market, Small Business workshops and Conferences, and the annual Jamboozie festival. Laredo Main Street, with help from the City of Laredo, has designated the first Arts and Entertainment District. This area is primed for tremendous growth and investment opportunities.
